Amalfi Coast Wedding Photographer in Positano, Destination wedding with Kay English Photography

This is the moment I have been waiting for!!! The most AMAZING Italian destination wedding I’ve ever seen below!  And I’m so happy to share it with you all! I am so thankful to Jesus for allowing me to photograph weddings, especially this Italian destination wedding with the amazing couple Rachel and Jason! This was my first time to Italy, and I honestly don’t have words to describe it. Italy is so amazing that only a write could tell about it’s wonders. The food is better than anything I’ve ever had, the people are wonderful, the views don’t even seem real! So to say this was the perfect setting for a destination wedding, is definitely an understatement:)It’s no wonder that Rachel and Jason chose Positano for their wedding location. The cliffs overlook the Mediterranean sea with the beautiful blue water.

Their wedding was AMAZING! The gorgeous bride got ready at the Hotel Marincanto which was stunning! The groom got ready at the same hotel we stayed at which was closer by the beach and very convient, Villa Flavio Gioia. Rachel had a lemon theme with gorgeous yellows and light pinks. It was so much fun capturing her detail photos including her gorgeous ring, yellow wedding shoes, yellow bridesmaids dresses, and her gorgeous dress. After she got ready and we took bridal portraits, we all headed down into town to go to her beautiful church called the La Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta, in Positano, Italy. Their ceremony was beautiful and I was so honored to work with the amazing ladies at The Amalfi Experience, who did such a great job setting everything up! After their ceremony, we took a group photo of all of their guests, and headed down to the beach to take more photos:)The light was a big harsh but it was still gorgeous and coming over the mountain which looked amazing!

I photographed on both film processed by Richards Photo Lab, and also digital. I loved their amazing “Grazie” thank you card sign, and I brought them a cute lemon heart wreath to use in photos. Rachel and Jason and their families were so much fun to work with, and we so laid back the whole day! After more photos, we headed inside to their amazing reception location, Rada Restaurant in Positano. The food was AMAZING and I am still dreaming of their pear risotto. Their reception was beyond amazing! It had huge windows and an open roof overlooking to amazing coast. Some of my favorite photos are the night time shots below where we walked down the stairs and went onto the beach at the perfect time for the sapphire blue sky. We also had the opportunity to do a brief “day after” destination session, and we rented a scooter and took photos overlooking the gorgeous coast. Overall, it was an incredible INCREDIBLE wedding and I am so blessed and honored to have captured it, and will remember it for the rest of my life and smile:)God bless, Kay

From the Bride ” The first time we visited Italy together four years ago, it stole our hearts. So when it came time to plan our wedding, we knew we wanted to jet off to Europe with our closest family and friends for a dream celebration we’d never forget.I started researching online some of the most picturesque spots in Italy to exchange vows, and when I came across a photo of Positano—a seaside village built into the cliffs of the Amalfi Coast—I knew that was it. It was a bit of risk, since we’d never visited that area of Italy before, but we decided to take a chance on the captivating locale. We hired a group of fabulous women at The Amalfi Experience to help us with the wedding planning process and be our eyes and ears overseas. My favorite color is yellow; I love the warmth and cheeriness of it. And it fit right in with our destination, which is known for its sunny villas and lemons that can grow as big as your head! For our ceremony, we chose La Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta, a church whose abbey reportedly dates back to the 10th century. It has a gorgeous majolica tile dome that you can see from nearly anywhere in Positano, and it’s perched along the beach. Our reception venue was just a short walk away at Rada Restaurant. We wanted someplace where our guests could enjoy the ocean view and see Positano aglow as night fell. On our private terrace at the restaurant, the roof opened up so that we could dine and dance under the stars. We wanted a small, intimate wedding, and with 30 guests we felt so lucky to be able spend time with everyone individually. We chose to serve authentic Italian food with delicious dishes like risotto with pears and honey and fresh fish. Our cake was a lemon sponge cake, traditional to the area.

Some of our favorite personal touches were the personalized, hand-painted limoncello favors and our unity candles for the ceremony. I made them by covering a pillar candle in lace, adding a crystal detail and pearl pins down the back to mimic the style of my dress. Our guestbook was a chestnut brown Italian leather journal filled with handmade Amalfi paper pages. It’s so fun to go back and read all the sweet notes from our guests! I also made nearly all of the stationary myself, from the menus to the table cards to the wedding programs. It was a challenge, but also a money-saver. Our biggest splurge was our venue, with the to-die-for views that simply can’t be replicated. It was worth every penny!

My dress was a gorgeous, flowing tulle ball gown with crystal waist and lace bodice. It was light enough to wear for a walk along the beach as newlyweds, but still elegant for our seaside venue. I paired it with custom-made yellow heels and crystal jewelry. On my garter, I had a bluebird pin that belonged to my late grandmother. I know she was there in spirit.

My bouquet was a lush mix of peonies, dahlias and a few roses, while my bridesmaids walked down the aisle with creamy white hydrangeas. Jason and the groomsmen wore freesia boutonnieres. At the reception, we tied in our color theme with vibrant yellow and white centerpieces with a touch of greenery.

The whole day was more than we could have dreamed. Though I expected to be a ball of nerves, shedding a tear down the aisle, when I woke up that morning I felt completely calm. I was happy, and more than ready to say “I do”! And I smiled the whole way down the aisle. To be surrounded by such a close-knit, loving group of people—in one of the most stunning places we’ve ever visited—was the perfect way to start our married lives together. We couldn’t have been happier!
